MTR MTR is main and popular public transport in Hong Kong. It's the most convenient way of traveling in Hong Kong. There are ten lines in the MTR system with more then 70 stations. Island Line, Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan, Tung Chung, Tseung Kwan O , Ma On Shan, East Rail, West Rail, the Airport Express, Disneyland Resort. Sign of MTR is a red circle with a Chinese sign. MTR operates from 6 am till 1 am. Every 2-4 minutes there is a train. Stations are located in all needed places and each of them has several exits. Exits from MTR lead to the most meaningful buildings. Taxi There are a lot of taxis in Hong Kong. Almost all drivers are able to speak English. Traveling on a taxi is not that expensive. But in the beginning you can be confused because of extra charges, which are added to the counter readout for driving through paid underground tunnels and baggage. There are three types of taxi in Hong Kong: urban taxi - red color, The New Territories taxi - green color, Lantau Island taxi - blue color. Fare Table - Hong Kong Taxis:

Buses Buses are one on the most popular public transports in Hong Kong. Bus services from 6 am till 12 am. Usually two storage buses used on the routes and rout direction is written on the front window of it. Cost of trip depends on the distance traveled. Usually it is from 2 till 40 HK$. You need to pay while you are getting in with cash or Octopus Card. There are boxes which are inside of the bus, where you have to put your coins in, better if with no change. Public Light Buses There are two types of minibuses: red top and green top. They are 16 seat public vans. Minibuses are faster than usual buses and that's why cost a little bit higher. Payment also made while you get in. Tramway Tramway line in Hong Kong was opened in 1904. It is one of the most old public transport types in Hong Kong. Tramways of Hong Kong perform not only transport function, but also become sight of Hong Kong. Route is show on the plate with the last destination point. All routes pass from city center. Waggonage of Tramway is double storey. Your trip will cost 2 HK$. Tramway is very comfortable for short distance or if you would like to go for drive on the island. Peak Tram Peak Tram - a cable tram going up to Victoria Peak from Central district. Ferry Ferry is very good and cheap type of transport between Hong Kong island and Kowloon peninsula, if you need reach from Wanchai or Central (on the island) to Tsim Sha Tsui or Hung Hom (on the mainland) or backwards. Also it is one of the best ways to view panorama of Victoria bay and Hong Kong skyscrapers. Ferries operate from 6:30 am till 11:30 pm. Cost of Star Ferry is about 2.2 HK$, depending on a itinerary and deck. Octopus Card Octopus system is really comfortable. It is prepaid electron card which is devoted as a payment for a public transport. Also you can use it as payment for your goods bought in 7-Eleven. If you are staying in Hong Kong for couple of days, its recommendable to purchase it. Usually you can buy it from cash desks at MTR or in 7-Eleven. |
