The Hong Kong Coliseum is located in Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong, on the waterfront. The structure was built by Hong Kong's Urban Council. The building was dedicated in 1983. It's the second-largest building of its kind in Hong Kong. The largest is the AsiaWorld-Arena, which opened to the public in 2005. The coliseum can accommodate 12,500 spectators. The building is used for a variety of sports events including basketball, volleyball, ice skating, and futsal, which is a form of futbol or soccer that is usually played indoors.
The additional events held at the Hong Kong Coliseum are the annual Miss Hong Kong Pageant. It's also the site for concerts by popular singers and musicians, and used by universities for congregation. The congregation is an event for faculty and students of universities in Hong Kong. It's the ceremony that confers degrees on students and celebrates their graduation from the university. A variety of classical music performances and pop concerts are held at the arena. The coliseum features a color television system that projects images on big screens so spectators at the rear of the building have good visibility. To find out about events being held at the coliseum, you may check the monthly calendar online which lists upcoming events.
The Hong Kong Coliseum was built so that it offers the best views without any obstructions for the largest numbers of spectators. Not only are many local events held there, but also many international events. The building is reached easily by all forms of public transportation in Hong Kong. The construction allows for a stage to be set up at either end of the coliseum or in the center of the arena. The building features an outdoor piazza which can be used for fairs or festivals. The piazza can also be used for private receptions or exhibits in conjunction with events going on inside the arena.
The Hong Kong Coliseum has private conference rooms for conferences or conventions held by corporations and organizations. For large venues, the open stage provides the perfect venue for public events. Live broadcasts can be arranged to be shown throughout Hong Kong for opening ceremonies of special events. When private entities, organizations, or corporations rent the facility, a reception room can be used for visiting guests or VIPs. Up to 60 guests can easily be accommodated in the reception area. The coliseum should be contacted by parties who want to host entertainment events, or use the facility to host conferences or conventions.
